A good photograph is more than an image frozen in time. It is much deeper. It should convey a feeling or a story, or bring up memories. Above all, it should engage the viewer. I try to take photographs that have an emotional connection with the viewer. At its best the connection is subtle and becomes stronger each time the viewer looks at the picture.
I am primarily a landscape photographer. I try to photograph the beauty and romance of nature but with a hint of human presence. I like to photograph in a way that makes the forms and the color and the lines become the subject and then include a human element for scale, or focus, or story. Looking at the photograph should be an experience. I want the viewer to remember what they felt when they looked at the photograph.
Recently, I have been experimenting with capturing the poetic qualities of fog. (Living in Seattle affords an excellent opportunity for the subject.) Fog simultaneously has the qualities of both mystery and romance. I am trying to create images that will evoke both. Additionally, I have modified an older Nikon D1X camera to take digital infrared images and am working on producing meaningful infrared landscapes.
I hope you like my work. Comments are appreciated.
